“Only God can judge me.” –Tupac Shakur

As an artist, I realize when I’m outdone.  It’s obvious when someone is better that I. There’s ways to react to this: either I put the feeling away or get angry at my own inadequacy…
…or I recognize, then proceed to congratulate.

I looked at an apple today and said, “That is the best apple I’ve ever seen. Good job, God.”

  1. Man, this is right on point. Ive found myself wanting to quit music about a hundred times since I started. I kept saying Im not as good as this person, or this song is so amazing I could never pull off something like that.

BUT then I had a realization.

I bet that Vincent Van Gogh had doubts about himself, and if he wouldve compared his art to renaissance art of the time that was popular, he probably wouldve never done anything more. He kept doing his thing, even when it wasnt popular. He only sold a single painting while he was alive, but fast forward to now and you can't throw a rock without hitting a reprint of "Starry Night".

The world is such a huge place with so many people, all with different tastes and influences. If only one great singer existed or only the "best" artist did art for the entire planet it would be boring as hell! The world craves variety. I imagine that if Van Gogh were alive today and saw one of your paintings he would say "Damn! I wish I would've thought of that!"
